I’m retouching some amazing pics from a recent family photography session, and I noticed that a few of them have a color cast on the skin of the children because I had them stand on some leaves that were reflecting orange up onto their skin.
Color casts can be caused from reflections off of the ground (like a green cast from grass), clothing – especially when family members wear bright colors, and buildings or other objects that your subjects are standing near.
I thought you may be curious how I go about retouching skin to remove the color cast. It’s actually quite simple!
Watch the video or review the simple steps below.
- After you’ve opened your image, select the brush tool in Photoshop and make the following brush settings…
- Change the brush hardness to 0%.
- Change the layer style from “Normal” to “Color.”
- Set the opacity to 100% and Flow to 10%.
- Alt-click on the area of the skin that has good color you want to replicate to select that color.
- Lightly start to brush that color over the color cast to change the color. Add more brush strokes to intensify the effect, but don’t go too crazy, or it will start to look like fake skin.
- Resample the color every time you move to a new area to match to the colors nearby that you want to replicate.
That’s it!! Once you get the hang of it, you’ll become obsessed with perfecting skin colors… just like me! This is both a burden (for me) and a blessing (for my clients). LOL!
