If you’ve been following my blog this year, you’ll know this has been a banner year of professional achievements for me! And I’ve just added one more! Now, I’m Northern Virginia’s first, and currently the only, accredited newborn photographer!
I started 2019 being voted the “Most Loved Photographer” in Ashburn and Leesburg on Hulafrog!
I was named one of the Best Maternity Photographers in Fairfax on Expertise.com for the third year in a row!
I studied like crazy for an exam and created technical images for judging to become a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) through the Professional Photographers of America (PPA).
I became a Qualified Newborn Photographer through the Association of Professional Newborn Photographers International (APNPI). One of only 8 photographers to do so in a 100-mile radius!
I won First Place in the Sitters category for my image “The Wonder of One” in APNPI’s spring image competition!
Accredited Newborn Photographer
Now, I’ve just become the first, currently the ONLY, newborn photographer in a 100-mile radius to become an accredited newborn photographer in newborn posing through APNPI.
To earn my accreditation, I had to submit 12 images for judging, fulfilling different newborn posing categories. All 12 images had to be “accepted” in order to receive the accreditation. The images were judged separately for:
- Impact
- Creativity
- Style
- Composition
- Presentation
- Lighting
- Color Balance
- Center of Interest
- Technical Excellence
- Technique
- Subject Matter
- and Storytelling
On top of individual image judging, the entire submission also needed to be cohesive, using the same tones and colors, though each image needed to be of different babies from different photo sessions.
Needless to say, it’s a little intimidating! It was so exciting to receive my email stating “Congratulations on your Successful Accreditation!” This achievement really means so much to me, since I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to newborn posing!
Here are the images I submitted for judging and the requirement for which each was submitted.
Three beanbag poses
Two prop poses
Close-up
Mid-length crop
Full-length crop
Baby Alone
Baby with Parent
Baby with Siblings
And Twins!
And those weren’t my only accomplishments this year! I also created a new Portraits of Hope gallery for display at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in their NICU ward. And I was published on both Lemonade & Lenses and Click Magazine’s blog!
As you can see, I really pressed myself this year to do more and be better. I’m really excited to have all of the accomplishments under my belt, and I hope it makes you more excited about hiring me as your family’s photographer! If you’re ready to book your photo session, contact me today!
